Worthy
This painting started as a rebellion. Six rings, each holding a word women are so often punished for—smart, ambitious, confident, fearless, unapologetic. And then there was the last one, the one I couldn’t quite land on. It came to me the night before the show, and when it did, I got chills: worthy.
We’re taught to earn our worth. To prove ourselves by being useful, gentle, selfless. To be liked, but not too loud. Successful, but not threatening. And when we fall short of those unspoken rules, we’re made to feel like we’re not enough—not “good,” not “worthy.”
But what if we were shown that worth didn’t need to be earned?
What if we could believe we were worthy simply because we were born?
This piece doesn’t whisper. It shows up with red nails and a middle finger and says: I don’t need your approval to exist loudly. I don’t need to shrink to be accepted. I am already enough.
